Arnold Schwarzenegger (“Terminator” series, Total Recall) is in negotiations to star in writer/director Steve Pink’s (Hot Tub Time Machine) big budget action comedy The Toxic Avenger, produced by Akiva Goldsman, Richard Saperstein, Charlie Corwin, Stephen Kessler and Michael Benaroya. Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz will executive produce. The announcement was made today by International Film Trust’s (IFT) President Ariel Veneziano who will handle all international rights to the film alongside IFT’s Head of Sales Christian de Gallegos.

Set to be introduced to buyers at Cannes 2013, The Toxic Avenger is currently in pre-production and scheduled to start principal photography this fall.

Loosely based on Lloyd Kaufman’s classic Troma franchise, The Toxic Avenger is the tale of a high-school kid who gets dunked in a vat of toxic waste by a corrupt chemical company. He survives the ordeal with one major side effect: upon contact with toxic chemicals, he transforms into a monster with superhuman strength. Schwarzenegger would play “the Exterminator,” a former black ops agent, who trains Toxie to use his powers for good. Together they take on the lurking menace created by the polluters, and the polluters themselves.

“Moviegoers around the world were thrilled when Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to acting so effortlessly filling the gap that he left behind,” said producer and IFT co-founder Michael Benaroya. “He is the ultimate action hero with a natural comedic versatility and will be pitch perfect in The Toxic Avenger.”

said IFT President Ariel Veneziano.

“Our film is a perfect combination of commercial genre, star power and award winning filmmakers to set it apart from other titles on offer at Cannes this year. ‘The Toxic Avenger’ is a blockbuster in waiting with franchise potential. The buyers will love it,”

Back in March, Marvel dropped the bombshell that Neil Gaiman would be making his return to Marvel Comics, alongside his character Angela, who originally debuted in Spawn #9 but will now become a part of the Marvel Universe.

Appearing in Age of Ultron #10 and then moving on to Guardians of the Galaxy — where Gaiman will come on board to co-write with Brian Michael Bendis as of issue #5 — Angela got a spiffy (and revealing) new design from Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, revealed at EW earlier today.

The new design is pretty close to her original look, albeit with less bells and whistles:

“Angela is going to make her mark rather quickly. She’s going to hit the ground running and cut a large swath through the Marvel Universe – both literally and metaphorically,” said Quesada in Marvel’s press release. “We have huge plans for her, and the mystery of who she is and where she comes from is something I think Marvel fans are going to be blown away by. Actually, I know they will!”

“It’s no coincidence that Angela’s debut comes around a time when we’re reminding fans that there’s a reason we call the space our stories take place in, the Marvel Universe,”

said Axel Alonso, Editor In Chief, Marvel Entertainment, in the same release. “What Neil and Brian have planned for the character in Guardians of the Galaxy is going to definitely turn some heads, and nobody can miss where it goes from there!”

For comparison, here’s Angela’s original debut in Spawn #9:

Age of Ultron #10 hits on June 19, with Guardians of the Galaxy #5 to follow on July 24.

Rumors began to circulate last night that ABC would be officially ordering “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” to series today and they were right! The series has been picked up by the network for a full season and is expected to hit the airwaves this fall – no word on an episode count at this time. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that ABC will begin a “major marketing push” with the show this Sunday where a special look at the series will air before the season finale of “Once Upon a Time.”

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary.

Coulson’s team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

From Executive Producers Joss Whedon (Marvel’s The Avengers, ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer”); Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot co-writers (“Dollhouse,” “Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”); Jeffrey Bell (“Angel,” “Alias”); and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville”) comes Marvel’s first TV series. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television.

Entertainment Weekly confirmed the news to ComicBookMovie.com via Twitter, with further details to follow soon. Also back in the Marvel fold are Blade, Ghost Rider and The Punisher

Last week it was confirmed that Marvel had regained the screen rights to Daredevil from 20th Century Fox. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean a movie for the blind hero is in the works.

As Marvel’s Kevin Feige recently told EW, the studio’s slate is pretty booked, and right now there are no plans for a new Daredevil flick and the same goes for his friends.

“There comes a time in contracts where, if a studio is done making the movies, [the characters] come home, that doesn’t mean we’re going to make another movie. But it means they’re back in the fold, which is where we want them to be.”

This statement also holds for our other heroes, as the marvel exec followed up

“Whenever a character comes back to us, it’s usually because the other studios don’t want to make the movies anymore — and that usually means the [previous] movies may not have been particularly well received. They all have potential, but we’re not going to say, ‘We got it back — make it!’”

That said, it’s no doubt comforting for Marvel to have these characters back in the fold, just in case.

Mentioned on his podcast, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima tells listeners that he wanted the recently announced Legacy Collection to be released on Xbox 360 in addition to PlayStation 3, but that won’t ever be happening because Metal Gear Solid 4 is just too darn big to fit on the DVD format.

Metal Gear Solid 4 packs in an enormous size of data that can easily fit on a Blu-ray disc. A dual-layered Blu-ray disc holds up to 50GB. In comparison, a Xbox 360 DVD disc can only hold roughly about 7-8 GB on a disc. If Metal Gear Solid 4 were to exist on the Xbox 360 platform, Kojima says it would take up to seven DVDs. This is the reason why you won’t see The Legacy Collection, or MGS4, on Xbox 360 ever.

Kojima does add, however, that once the next-generation Xbox is released, Konami may consider releasing The Legacy Collection/MGS4 for that platform. The current rumor is that the next-generation Xbox would be using Blu-ray, so it should be possible to release the collection on the next Xbox. Kojima says, “If we released a version on the Xbox 360 without MGS4, then it’s not The Legacy Collection.”

So all those jokes about MGS4 needing a bunch of DVDs to run on Xbox 360 weren’t totally off the mark. Maybe it’s a good thing, if Kojima does release the collection on the next-generation Xbox, perhaps it could be the better version since they could take advantage of better console specs.

It’s a busy day for TV orders. On the heels of NBC renewing five series, The CW has officially ordered The Vampire Diaries spinoff, The Originals, to series, and renewed Beauty and the Beast and Hart of Dixie.

The Originals pickup occurs only hours after the backdoor pilot episode of The Vampire Diaries setting up the spinoff aired, and was expected. Also not surprising is the renewal of Hart of Dixie, which has been fairly stable for the CW. Beauty and the Beast was seen as more of a question mark, as it has not been able to hold on to a large amount of its Vampire Diaries lead-in numbers. With The Originals ordered, we’ll find out next month at CW’s Upfront whether they pair it with Vampire Diaries on Thursdays and move Beauty and the Beast to another timeslot.

These orders certainly are going to raise the anxiety level for us Nikita fans. That series and The Carrie Diaries remain the only two whose fate is still undecided for The CW. It’s been looking hopeful for a fourth season for Nikita, though it could possibly be a truncated one. Last year, Nikita’s decision was pretty down to the wire as well, so this is familiar territory for fans of the series. Deadline today say they hear Nikita is “likely for a final 13-episode cycle.”

Said CW’s president, Mark Pedowitz, “As soon as we saw last night’s episode of The Vampire Diaries, we knew we wanted more of The Originals – Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson have done a fantastic job with The Vampire Diaries, which is as fast-paced and well-written as ever, and Julie has created an equally compelling world for The Originals,” said Pedowitz. “We’re also very excited to bring back Beauty And The Beast and Hart of Dixie for next season – both series continue to be creatively strong and compelling, and their fans are incredibly passionate. I’m very happy to have all three series on the schedule for next season.”

The CW had already renewed Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and Arrow.

I don’t know if you recall, but way back before we knew about the Doctor Octopus/Peter Parker Freaky Friday deal that would lead to Superior Spider-Man, there was a rumor that Miguel O’Hara – Spider-Man 2099 – would be making his way back to Marvel. Turns out that wasn’t true… until now!

Announced at the Superior Spider-Man panel at C2E2, Marvel revealed that Miguel would be making his comeback in the pages of Superior Spider-Man #17 by Dan Slottand Ryan Stegman. Releasing in September, Marvel showed off a Spider-Man 2099 variant cover by Olivier Coipel of the issue.

A new threat is gunning for Spidey, and it’s going to take two wall-crawlers to bring it down — one just happens to be from the future.

Marvel promises that this is a big piece of the story that Slott has been building since “Big Time” in 2010, and that we’d be seeing much more from Miguel O’Hara in the months to follow issue #17.
